The Practice believes in fairness and is committed to valuing and encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion eliminating discrimination, as both an employer and a provider of health services.
The Equality Act 2010 offers protection against discrimination to nine ‘protected characteristics; age, disability, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, and marriage and civil partnerships The NHS Constitution also includes a duty “not to discriminate against patients or staff and to adhere to equal opportunities and equality and human rights legislation”.
We aim to provide accessible services, delivered in a way that respects the needs of each individual and does not exclude anyone. By demonstrating these beliefs the Practice ensures that it develops a healthcare workforce that is diverse, non discriminatory and appropriate to deliver modern healthcare.
The practice intends to embed its equality and diversity values into every day practice, policies and procedures so that equality, diversity and inclusion becomes the norm for all.
- Equality is not about treating everyone the same, it is about ensuring that access to opportunities are available to all by taking account of people’s differing needs and capabilities.
- Diversity is about recognising and valuing differences through inclusion, regardless of age, disability, gender (including Trans and non-binary), racial origin, religion, belief, sexual orientation, commitments outside work, part-time or shift work, language, union activity, HIV status, perspectives, opinions and person values etc. The surgery supports working towards developing a workforce that is representative of the community it serves.
- Inclusion is about how well the contributions, presence and perspectives of different groups of people are valued and included.
The Practice is committed to embedding equality, diversity and inclusion across our organisation for our team and our population.
