Access Audiology Self-Referral

What is an Access Audiology Self-Referral?

  • People aged 50+ in Lancashire and South Cumbria with hearing issues can now self-refer to NHS audiology AQP providers if eligible.
  • Previously you would have to have an appointment with their GP to be referred to these services. However, you may now self-refer without the need to see a GP.

What does it involve?

  • You will be asked a few questions about your hearing problems.
  • If you meet the eligibility criteria you will be referred to a local audiology services.

Patients should always see a GP first if:

  • You have sudden or rapid hearing loss, persistent pain, or vertigo.
  • You have tinnitus in one or both ears lasting for more than 5 minutes at a time, or that is in time with their heartbeat/pulse, or that is severe enough to disturb their sleep.

Thank you for completing the survey

Your answers have shown that you are eligible to self-refer to the local audiology service.

  • Please now get in touch with your provider of choice via telephone, or online to arrange the next steps.
  • No further action will be taken unless you contact your provider of choice.

If you think that you have ear wax, please discuss this with your provider of choice.

Wax must be dealt with first, as it can sometimes mean a hearing assessment cannot take place, although not always, or the hearing aids cannot be fitted.
