Update on Omeprazole: Important Information for Our Patients

We’re aware that recent news coverage about omeprazole has caused some understandable concern. We want to reassure our patients that we have not received any guidance suggesting omeprazole is unsafe, nor has it been withdrawn from prescribing recommendations. Omeprazole remains a commonly used and safe medication when taken appropriately.

Like all medicines, it should be used only when needed and reviewed regularly.

Our team checks medications at least once a year during routine reviews, and this is the ideal time to discuss any questions or concerns. You can also bring it up during an appointment booked for another reason if appropriate.

If you are not experiencing side effects, there is usually no need to book an urgent GP appointment solely to discuss omeprazole. As winter pressures increase, avoiding unnecessary appointments helps us keep care accessible for everyone who needs it.

Your local pharmacist is also an excellent first point of contact for advice about omeprazole or any other medication.

If you do have new symptoms, side effects, or worries that genuinely need medical assessment, please contact us—we’re here to help.

Thank you for helping us keep appointments available for those who need them most.
